Safe Streets Ahead: Shawnee Receives Federal Funding for Action Plan

The City of Shawnee, in collaboration with Pottawatomie Go and the University of Oklahoma (OU), has been awarded a $172,264 planning grant for the 2024-25 period. This grant, provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation, will be used to develop a comprehensive Safe Streets Action Plan aimed at enhancing the safety and infrastructure of Shawnee’s streets. The Safe Streets Action Plan will be facilitated by the University of Oklahoma’s Hudson College of Public Health, supported by the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture, with extensive input from Shawnee residents. Several community meetings will be held to ensure that the plan reflects the needs and priorities of the local community.

We look forward to the positive impact this project will have on the Shawnee community. For more information about the grant and the Safe Streets Action Plan, please visit the https://www.safe-streets-shawnee.org/ webpage.

Back To School Bash Fun!

Pogo was proud to support several back-to-school events in our community. BancFirst hosted a Back to School Bash where 250 backpacks were handed out to nearly 400 attendees. First United Bank organized the Pack the School teacher supply drive, which drew around 300 participants. We also joined Victory Family Church’s event benefitting students at Pleasant Grove School. We are happy to help our schools get prepared and ready for a great year ahead.

Cooking Up Fresh Ideas with Fruits & Veggies

Several coalition partners teamed up for a series of cooking demonstrations at the Community Market of Pottawatomie County, supporting the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) priority of increasing fruit and vegetable consumption across the county. In addition, regular cooking demos have been hosted at our office for the current round of Veggie RX participants.

Our team, along with Registered Dietitian Andrea Beck, led the sessions streamed live on Facebook showing creative and practical ways to prepare breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. These events are always a favorite for our office, especially when we get to taste-test the delicious creations!

From Summer Games to Groove Around the Globe: Keep Stepping with Us!

Thank you to everyone who joined the Summer Games Steps Challenge! Together, 110 participants logged more than 20.9 million steps, that’s about 9,262 miles, and built community along the way, forming 188 new friendships through the app.

With such amazing energy and enthusiasm, we’re thrilled to announce that the Groove Around the Globe Steps Challenge is returning this October. Get ready to lace up, stay connected, and keep moving with us this fall!

Join us for Cops N Kids this Saturday!

You can catch us at Cops N Kids this Saturday, August 23rd, from 11am-2pm at the Heart of Oklahoma Expo in the Otto Krause Building!  The Pogo Built Environment Committee will be hosting a fun and interactive bike rodeo obstacle course, where kids can learn the importance of wearing helmets, how to safely navigate the roads, and which hand signals to use while riding. Come hang out with us this Saturday, we can’t wait to see you there!
